Built in 1870, the outside is bathed in a golden ochre color and trimmed in white.
Though compared to the grand European cathedrals, this cathedral may appear a little austere but the inside is beautifully designed, and painted a bright white which makes it feel airy and light, especially on a hot day. The cathedral is also adorned with many statues and had little niches. The altar is overhung by a vaulted ceiling and there are soaring stained-glass windows framed the large, bronze relief sculpture of the Christ’s crucifixion which is quite unique. Above the entry door, there is no rose window, but there a large arched window with stained-glass in the upper arched portion. The cathedral falls into the “Historic Area of Willemstad, Inner City and Harbour, Curacao” which is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list as of 1997.
