Although Klein Curaçao is a small island in the Caribbean Sea, it offers an impressive variety of activities for such a compact space. Whether you are an adventurer, a sun lover, a snorkeling enthusiast, or simply seeking total peace, this island is a gem worth visiting.
The journey from Curaçao to Klein Curaçao takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes by boat. Settle in on a shaded bench, find a spot in the open-air seating areas, or stretch out on the netting at the front. If you choose the netting, be prepared to get wet, but you will have the best view for spotting dolphins. These playful creatures often swim alongside, riding the waves and showing off their jumps. On some days the ride can be lively with splashes from the waves and currents, but the sight that greets you is worth it. From a distance, you’ll spot the sunlit shoreline of the island and its famous pink lighthouse. As you arrive, the water becomes calm and crystal clear, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. You can take the dry route to shore by dinghy, but for a more memorable arrival, grab your snorkel gear and swim in. Right away you may see colorful fish and sea turtles all around you, and between May and August, you might even witness baby turtles making their way from the sand to the sea.
Once ashore, you can explore the island at your own pace. The walk from the beach to the pink lighthouse, shipwrecks, and old ruins is short and easy, but go early before the midday heat builds in the center of the island. Don’t forget sunscreen. Around noon, the crew serves up a generous BBQ buffet with grilled spareribs, chicken, and steak, accompanied by three fresh salads, bread, and a signature homemade Dutch peanut sauce.
Around 3:00 pm*, the boat sets sail back to Curaçao, leaving the island behind as you ride the trade winds and currents. The return trip is smooth and relaxed, making it the perfect time for the Captain’s Happy Hour. Enjoy fresh fruit and your favorite drink while the sun begins to set, reflecting on the unforgettable day you spent on Klein Curaçao.
Unfortunately not. The boat departs from Jan Thiel Beach at 8:00 AM, and cruise ships do not arrive early enough to allow for check-in at 07:45 AM.
The journey usually takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, depending on sea conditions.
