Health and Medical safety

Although mosquitoes can be a bit of a bother in the rainy season, Curacao does not have malaria or other similar tropical diseases. Vaccinations are therefor not necessary when visiting the island. In 2014 there has been a spreading of Chikungunya, but this illness has not resurfaced anymore in 2015.

In case you are so unlucky to get ill on Curacao, local pharmacies - called Boticas – will sell you most medicines also known in Europe and the United States. To ease the last of your possible worries it is good to know that the most modern and best equipped hospital in the region (St. Elisabeth Hospital also known as SEHOS) is located on Curacao.

Currently there’s a new hospital being built right next to the existing one. The new location should open its’ doors either late 2016 or early 2017.
